What we teach
BJJ
- BJJ - No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art, like wrestling, where students wear athletic clothes like rash guards and shorts.
- The core principles are to use leverage and technique to get your opponent to the ground and hold them still to submit them via a joint locks or chokes. This modern and evolving style of BJJ is applicable to MMA and self-defence. As with all our classes we prioritize safe participation above all else.
MMA
MMA - Mixed Martial Arts is a modern and evolving martial art that blends techniques from various martial arts disciplines including boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and wrestling.
At Midwest Martial arts we teach a comprehensive model of MMA rather than separate disciplines allowing our athletes to develop complete and adaptive skills in a safe and controlled manner.
Unlike Boxing and Kickboxing where striking to the head is the main objective. MMA is much richer in strategies and tactics allowing us to train the complete skill set with light and less frequent head contact.
Kids
Our kids’ classes emphasize grappling-based martial arts, primarily No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
In these sessions, students wear athletic gear like rash guards and shorts instead of traditional uniforms.
The focus is on using leverage, technique, and body control to safely take opponents to the ground and apply holds or submissions.
As student gain more experience striking will be added to the class but without head contact as protecting a child’s developing brain is paramount.
